Description	:	Mrs. S. A. Gilliland, aged 79 years, resident of Sigourney for the past 24 years, died at her home this morning. She had been in ill health for some time, suffering with a heart ailment, but was critically ill only since Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Gilliland was born on May 10, 1862, on a farm east of Hayesville and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Herrell. Gilliland, aged 79 years, resident of Sigourney for the past 24 years, died at her home this morning. She had been in ill health for some time, suffering with a heart ailment, but was critically ill only since Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Gilliland was born on May 10, 1862, on a farm east of Hayesville and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Herrell. On August 12, 1862, her father enlisted in the Union army during the Civil War and died two years later, being buried at Little Rock, Arkansas. She was only three years old at the time of his death. On January 5, 1882, she was united in marriage to Samuel A. Gilliland at Washington, and they started housekeeping on their farm east of Lancaster, where they lived until 1917 when they moved to the present home in Sigourney. Mr. Gilliland preceded her in death only five months ago on January 23. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wilmer Utterback and Mrs. S. E. Divelbiss, both of Sigourney; two sons, Glen of Chicago and Ward of near Delta, and two grandchildren, Mildred Utterback of Ottumwa and Jerry Gilliland of near Delta. Preceding her in death were her brother, Albert Herrell, who lived near Hayesville; a half-sister, Mrs. C. A. Schreiner of Ollie and a half-brother, William Hubbard of Chicago. Mrs. Gilliland untied with the Christian church at Lancaster when she was about 18 years old and transferred her membership to the local church when they moved to Sigourney. She was a regular attendant of the church as long as her health permitted. The funeral service will be held at the Christian church next Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. L. G. Potter, pastor of the church. Burial will be made in Pennington cemetery.
