Description	:	Martha Jane Williams was born in Rush County, Indiana, August 19, 1839 and died at her home in Sigourney, May 20, 1921, aged 81 years, 9 months, and one day. She came with her parents to Iowa when just a child, settling in Keokuk County. Since that time her residence has been practically continuous in this community. Mr. Herrell... Read More	Martha Jane Williams was born in Rush County, Indiana, August 19, 1839 and died at her home in Sigourney, May 20, 1921, aged 81 years, 9 months, and one day. She came with her parents to Iowa when just a child, settling in Keokuk County. Since that time her residence has been practically continuous in this community. February 1, 1857 she was united in marriage to James B. Herrell. To them were born three children, one dying in infancy. Another Albert E. died in 1905. The other is now Mrs. Laura Z. Gilliland. Mr. Herrell enlisted in the Army of the Rebellion, August 12, 1862, dying two years later on July 12, 1865. The subject of this sketch was married to W. H. Hubbird in 1865. To this union were born two children, W. H. now of Chicago and Mrs. Lottie H. Schreiner of Ollie Iowa. Sister Hubbird is survived today by the last two named children, by her daughter, Mrs. Laura Gilliland mentioned above, and by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, one grandchild, Helen Herrell having died in infancy. Sister Hubbird united with the Christian church in the year 1859 on the fourth Lord's Day in May, and was baptized by her uncle, W. H. Brunt. About the year 1886 she with a few others became charter members of the present Sigourney Christian Church. It may truly be said her life was wrapped up in her church. She remained a member of various church organizations, a continuos and devoted attendant upon it services and an enthusiastic supporter of its cause until stricken last February with paralysis. Though her sufferings during her last days were immeasurably great, she was supported by the strong care of the almighty one. Funeral services were conducted from the church, Sunday May 22nd, at 2:30 p.m. by the minister Rev. R. B. Hyten. Interment in West Cemetery. Keokuk County News clipping May 26, 1921 (handwritten) Note: Obituary states burial at West Cemetery (Pleasant Grove) but she has a marker next to Wm. H. Hubbird's at Pennington. Note: Obituary states her son Albert died in 1905 which is an error. Albert died in 1906. Note: Original obit states James died 1865, he died 1864. Note: There is a gravestone at Pennington Cemetery (south of Sigourney) for Lizzie L. daughter of J. B. & M. J. Herrell, she died February 9, 1858.
