LAUREN J.H. HARPER Lauren J. H. Harper was born March 18, 1898, near Glasco, Kansas and passed away at the Glenwood Hospital at Glenwood Springs, Colorado on October 6, 1928. Lauren spent his boyhood and received his schooling at the place of his birth and growing to manhood, followed the occupation of farming for a number of years. The last five years of his life was spent in the west, and he was, at the time of his death, employed as a locomotive fireman for the Denver & Rio Grande Railway Company. While thus employed he contracted pneumonia. During his illness he was given every care and attention possible at the F.N. Juhan home, until his condition became so serious that it was best to remove him to the Glenwood Springs hospital, where every means known to science was employed by the members of the staff of the hospital and special nurses to counteract his malady, but to no avail, and the loving vigil of the wife and father, who through the long anxious hours had been constantly with him, was ended. Lauren, as a boy here, was a loving, friendly chap, and he carried with him into manhood that happy faculty of making and holding the friendship of those with whom he came in contact, a fact which is evidenced in the many expressions of sympathy from the home folks and from those of the late home of the deceased, Glenwood Springs. Left to mourn his passing are the wife, two children, three step-children (an error,should be a reference to step-brothers & sisters.), the father, step-mother, numerous relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the family home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Dr. C.A. Fellows of Solomon, a former pastor of the Methodist church here, who in a short discourse brought words of comfort to the bereaved family. Members of the Arthur Pilcher Post 212 American Legion acted as pall bearers, formed a guard of honor at the services at the home and conducted the services at the grave in Glasco Cemetery where interment was made.
