Sid Bingaman was organist and Rhonda Howard and Rita Halvorson were vocalists. Casket bearers were Chris Helsene, Chad and Steve Ness, Mike Wilcox, Ronnie Thompson and Myron Hjelden. Laurice Ness was born May 28, 1918 to Peder and Christie Helgeseth Ness on the family farm in Eldon Township near Minnewaukan. He was raised there and educated at the township school. He married Signe Swenson June 10, 1943. The couple farmed with his father until 1949, when the moved to Wadena, Minn. He farmed there and also was employed at the Wadena Silo Company. In 1966 he began working for Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud, Minn. and moved his family there in 1969. After retirement in 1982 the couple moved to Devils Lake and lived there until moving to Benson, Minn. in February 2002 to be near family. He was baptized and confirmed at the West Minnewaukan Free Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan. While living in Wadena he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran in St. Cloud. They were charter members of Christ Free Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. He also served as the treasurer for many years. He enjoyed his pontoon, gardening and reading. Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry (Cheryl) Ness of Benson,Minn.; three daughters, Loretta (Donald) Klug of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Sharele (Roy) Ross of Williston and Connie Nelson of Brainerd, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kristin Klug; a son-in-law, David Nelson; and three sisters, Mabel Thompson, Olga Hjelden and Grace Thompson.
