On March 3rd, 1867 she became the wife of Meshack Purdum, who passed away 24 years ago at their home in Cherokee. Since that time Mrs. Purdum has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. L.E. On March 3rd, 1867 she became the wife of Meshack Purdum, who passed away 24 years ago at their home in Cherokee. Since that time Mrs. Purdum has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. L.E. Hanes in Pittsburg. Mr. and Mrs. Purdum in company with the F.M. Montee and A.A. Clugston families came to Cherokee and settled north of Cherokee on the Base Line road where the families all grew up. In 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Purdum moved to Cherokee where they resided until the time of Mr. Purdum's death. Mrs. Purdum was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and at the time of her death was a member of that church in Pittsburg. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church there by Dr. Gordon and she was laid to rest beside her husband in the Cherokee cemetery. Two daughters and a son mourn her death: Mrs. L. E. Hanes of Pittsburg; Mrs. J. P. Bruton of Memphis, Tenn.; and J.A. Purdum, at whose home she passed away. Mrs. Purdum was a good neighbor and a loving wife and mother and her passing was as her life had been, peaceful and quiet. She has earned her entrance to "That spiritual home not made by hands, eternal in the heavens."
