He had not been in good health for several months, but was not considered serious until the last few weeks. Arthur was a lifetime resident of this community and was perhaps known to every person living in Cherokee. He was born November 21, 1882. He attended school here. He worked for the Chadsey Merc. Co. for several years, also for the Frisco Ry. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Art was our old standby. In rushes we could always depend upon his assistance. Several times when we printed the ballots for the county, he was at our office at nights and did the counting and putting in envelopes, etc. Absolutely dependable. When Art did a job we never gave it another thought. We knew it was right. He was a great lover of the outdoors and we had been on fishing trips down in the Ozarks with him, and he was one of the finest fellows to be out with you ever knew. He was secretary of the Cherokee Gun Club at the time of his death. We sure liked Art and considered him one of our best friends. Among the survivors are the widow Mrs. Maude Purdum; two daughters, Dawn of Chicago, and Bee of the home; three sons, Arthur, Dale and Jack, all of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Iva Bruton of Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church with Rev. King Phillips and Rev. Roy Templin officiating. Interment was in the Cherokee cemetery.
