"Laurie" Larson, son of George and Genette (Rud) Larson, was born December 16, 1918 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up there and graduated from Washington High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in sales for Triangle School Service for 21 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. Larson was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church. He served as President of the Sioux Chapter ARC, South Dakota ARC, and was on the board of directors of the National ARC and the Sioux Vocational Services Foundation. He also served on the Governor's Committee on Mental Health and Mental Retardation. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Phyllis A. Larson, Ocala, Florida; a daughter, Kristi Larson, Giddings, Texas; a son, Peter Larson, Austin, Texas; two stepsons, Tim Hurlbut, Ocala, Florida, Gary Hurlbut, Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren; Kathryn Larson and Stephen Larson, Austin, Texas, Brian Hurlbut and David Hurlbut, Ocala, Florida, Kim Hurlbut, Los Angeles, California, Todd Hurlbut, San Francisco, California; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Larson was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn M. Larson, in 1983. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sioux Vocational School or the donor's favorite charity.
