Nance County Journal - June 13, 1963 LaVANTIA ELSIE LEACH LaVantia Elsie Lenker was born at Fullerton, Nebraska, on December 11, 1885, and died at Fullerton Memorial Hospital on June 8, 1963. She had been ill for the past two years, and had been seriously ill for the past four months. She was 77 years of age. Following her marriage in 1907 at Fullerton to Andrew B. Currier, the couple made their home in Cuba for several years, later moving to Bismarck, North Dakota. In 1914 she assumed active charge of the publication of the McLean County Independent which was owned and operated by her husband and his brother in North Dakota. She had received special recognition for her high esteem and journalism ability in publishing the newspaper. Following the sale of the newspaper she moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where she was employed by the Western Newspaper Union. Her husband died in 1931. For several years she was employed at Health Schools in Colorado, Missouri and Pennsylvania. In 1935 she returned to Fullerton to care for her sister, Mrs. Frank Leach, in her illness and death. In 1940 she married Mr. Leach, and the couple made their home on a farm near Fullerton until his death in 1949. Mrs. Leach remained on the farm for several months, moving to Fullerton in 1950. Mrs. Leach was baptized into the Presbyterian Church on September 1, 1960. Surviving is a niece, LuElla Titterington of Columbus, and five nephews who with J. G. Titterington were pallbearers at her funeral. They are: Theodore Titterington of Fullerton and Gerald Titterington of Bartlett, Alvin Lenker of Assaria, Kansas, Theodore Lenker of Ord and Donald Lenker of Ogallala. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. N. J. O. Boomgaarden, pastor of the Fullerton Presbyterian Church, at the Beaman & Palmer Funeral Home on June 11. Burial was in the Fullerton Cemetery.
