Description	:	LaVerne Leininger was born on December 12, 1921, in Boone, Iowa, the fourth son of Louis and Katherine Leininger, in a family of six boys. Read More	LaVerne Leininger was born on December 12, 1921, in Boone, Iowa, the fourth son of Louis and Katherine Leininger, in a family of six boys. LaVerne attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School north of Boone through eighth grade. He was the first of his brothers to go to high school, rode the bus 44 miles every day, and graduated from Story City High School in 1939. He was an active member of Future Farmers of America all four years and went with the FFA on a bus trip to Texas his junior year. At the age of 18, he bought his first corn sheller and began his shelling business with two of his friends. Later, he purchased his own hauling truck and shelled corn for 43 years. LaVerne met his future wife Chloe when she was only three years old and would spend summers with her relatives on a neighboring farm. LaVerne taught himself how to play guitar and serenaded Chloe until he won her heart. They were married on August 24, 1944, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. As a member of St. Paul’s, LaVerne served as an elder, a trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. Together, Laverne and Chloe raised five children, Larry (Judie Meyer) of Trenton, Missouri; Lynne Johnson (Dr. Jack) of Milford, Iowa; Rev. Keith (Debbie Mau) of Manhattan, Illinois; Jean Timm (Lowell) of Lafayette, Indiana; and Cindy Andorf (David) of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1969, after farming for 23 years, LaVerne and Chloe sold their farm and moved into Boone where he continued his corn shelling business. LaVerne and Chloe worshipped at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards with friends and family. He loved entertaining his family with his singing and guitar playing. LaVerne leaves behind a legacy of faith and a love of travel and music. Daily devotions and attending church were a part of family life. He daily read his Bible and Portals of Prayer up until the day he died, often reading them aloud himself with his family. He and Chloe traveled all over the country, helping with family projects or attending events of their children and grandchildren. His love of music is evident in the lives of his 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and newest great, great granddaughter! In December of last year, after 73½ years of marriage, the Lord called his beloved wife Chloe home. Nine months later, on September 23rd, at the age of 96, LaVerne joined her in heaven. What a happy reunion and great celebration with Jesus!
