Crabbe, 86, a resident of Chico for over 60 years, died Thursday night at her home on Chestnut street after an illness of several years. Read More	The following is courtesy of FAG volunteer Don, sent via email on December 25, 2015. The Charlottetown Guardian 7 Jan 1947, Mrs. Lavina E. Crabbe, 86, a resident of Chico for over 60 years, died Thursday night at her home on Chestnut street after an illness of several years. Mrs. Crabbe was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada, where she lived and was married to the late William Crabbe at the age of 17. Mr. Crabbe was a mining engineer and they came from Canada to Magalia in 1886, and then moved to Chico a few years later. Mr. Crabbe preceded his wife in death in 1918. Mrs. Crabbe has lived at the home where she passed away, 924 Chestnut St. for 38 years, and was well known for her work and efforts on behalf of others. She raised the four orphaned children of her oldest son from childhood and was always ready to help anyone in sickness. She was an active member all her life in the Halleck Relief Corps until her illness deterred her. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Eleanor MacLean of Chico; Hammond J. Crabbe of San Francisco; Ben F. Crabbe of Red Bluff; the four grandchildren she raised, Mrs. Joe White of Los Gatos, Mrs. Helen Goekler of Oakland, Ellery B. Crabbe of Los Angeles and Arden Crabbe of Redding; two brothers, Albert and Artemus Prowse of Canada; three other grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1.30 in the Nugent-Huddleston Funeral Chapel with Mrs. Blanche Smith officiating assisted by the Halleck Relief Corps. Interment will follow in the family plot of Chico cemetery. The deceased was a sister of the late Senator B. C. Prowse and the late L. E. Prowse and a sister-in-law of Mr. Joseph Crabbe, Assistant Fire Marshal. ~~~ Birth and death dates and locations, mother's maiden name Horne, from California Death Index Records. 86-year-old Lavinia E. Crabbe was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on November 25, 1946.
