Rosary 7:30 p.m. today, service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, both at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain. Born near Cheney, Kan. on Oct. 3, 1920, Lawrence was the first of seven children born to August "Gus" Lampe and Elizabeth Bergkamp Lampe, both deceased. Preceded in death by: sister, Matilda, brother, Cyril, both of the home; brother, Glen of Murdock, Kan. Still remaining are sisters, Zita May, Ida Osner, of Conway Springs, brother, Roman of Cheney. Being diagnosed with Austomolitess at the age of 13, he was never to live past the age of 20. However on June 10, 1943, he married Eleanora Haukap by which his son Cyril "Cy" of Wichita and daughter, Ruth Ann Elpers of Wichita, were born followed by seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In 1946 Eleanora became ill with a rare cancer and died March 10, 1948. On May 9, 1951 he married Margaret Zoglmann who remains at home in Garden Plain. From this union came three children, Larry of Garden Plain, Marie Wood of Boser City, LA, and Shirley Lampe of Wichita, followed by four grandchildren; one grandchild, Angie Wood preceded him in death. After a battle with alcohol, he entered the Valley Hope Treatment Center March 24, 1974, where he was an active member helping many people with their problem and serving on the Advisory Board of Valley Hope for several years. Lawrence retired from Farm Supply Inc. in 1999, where he delivered L.P Gas and repaired heating and cook stoves as an employee and co-owner since 1950. Being in business, "service" was important to him. After repairing a stove for someone they would often ask "What do I owe you Lawrence?" He would reply, "Oh nothing, just glad I could help." Now when it comes for his final meeting and Lawrence asks, "What do I owe you, Lord?" I'm sure the answer will be "Oh nothing, Lawrence. Come on in. I'm just glad you could help." Memorials established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Valley Hope Hug-A-Bear. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain.
