January 19, 1967 - Carroll Daily Times Herald - Lawrence Schwenk, 80, a longtime Carroll resident, died Thursday morning, Jan. 19, at St. Anthony Hospital. He had been a patient at St. Anthony Nursing Home since the spring of 1964. Requiem mass will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. January 19, 1967 - Carroll Daily Times Herald - Lawrence Schwenk, 80, a longtime Carroll resident, died Thursday morning, Jan. 19, at St. Anthony Hospital. He had been a patient at St. Anthony Nursing Home since the spring of 1964. Requiem mass will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. Karhoff at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Church, of which Mr. Schwenk was a charter member. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home, where there will be a Legion of Mary rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish rosary at 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Schwenk was a mason by trade, retiring in 1956. He was born Aug. 9, 1886, at Garwin, a son of Delbert and Philhemina Schwenk. He came to Carroll in 1900. On June 12, 1911, he was married to Ellen Vollnier at Templeton. In addition to his membership in St. Lawrence parish he was a member of the Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus. Surviving are a son, Vincent, of Ames; two daughters, Mrs. E.K. (Phyllis) Freytag and Mrs. A.J. (Betty) Carlson of Olympia, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Fraser, San Leandro, Calif., and Sr. Leota, of St. Angela Convent, Carroll; and four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ola Carpenter, Mrs. Etta Anneberg, Mrs. C.F. Reilly and Mrs. Joe Micka, all of Carroll. His wife died in 1926. Also preceding him in death were an infant son, three brothers, and one sister. January 23, 1967 - Carroll Daily Times Herald - Requiem high mass for Lawrence Schwenk, 80, of Carroll was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Church, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. Karhoff as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Albert Bruch, Joe Connors, Joe Frank and Joe Micka. Acting pallbearers were Lee Schwenk, Larry Schwenk, Jess Duffy, Ralph Venteicher, James Kanne and Mike Wi1rock. The Sharp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Schwenk, a retired mason, died at St. Anthony Hospital Jan. 19.
