Most of Lawrence Moseley's life was spent doing prison work and at the time of his death he was Captain of the Guards at the State Prison Farm at Raiford whre he had worked for a number of years." Lawrence E. Moseley, 49, veteran deputy warden of the State Prison Farm, died early Tuesday night at his home at the Farm, after a lingering illness of several months. Capt. Moseley was born in Vidalia, Georgia in 1885, and moved to Starke with his parents at the age of ten years. On October 28, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Manning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Manning, of Starke, and to this union were born four children all of whom survive him. Capt. Moseley had been connected with the Florida State Prison Farm for the last twenty-one years, having received his appointment as Deputy Warden during the administration of the first superintendent , D.W. Purvis, and having served later under the superintendency of J.S. Blitch and the present Warden L.F. Chapman. He also held this office during the administrations of Governors Trammel, Catts, Hardee, Martin, Carlton and Sholtz. As Captain Moseley he was well known and respected throughout the State. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock at the family residence with Rev. O.K. Cull, of Tampa, assisted by Chaplain L.O. Sheffield of the Florida State Prison Farm, in charge of the service. The Rev. Mr. Cull baptized Captain Moseley twenty-two years ago, into the Christian Church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. Interment followed in the family plot at Kingsley lake cemetery, with DeWitt C. Jones Company, Funeral Directors, in charge. Rites at the grave were in conducted by Raiford Lodge, No. 82, F.&A.M. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edith Moseley; four children, Beatrice, Lillian, Edna Mae, and Lawrence E., Jr., Moseley; and one sister, Mrs. R.O. Gnann of DeLand.
