Description	:	Lawrence John "Red" Minnick, 82, of Creston died of cancer Aug. 26, 2004, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Mr. Minnick, son of Eliza Margaret (Thomas) and William Henry Minnick, was born July 13, 1922, northeast of Afton. He was educated in Afton area schools and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1940s. On April 2, 1943, he married Clarice Emily Stephens at the Stephen's home near Afton. Read More	Lawrence John "Red" Minnick, 82, of Creston died of cancer Aug. 26, 2004, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. Mr. Minnick, son of Eliza Margaret (Thomas) and William Henry Minnick, was born July 13, 1922, northeast of Afton. He was educated in Afton area schools and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1940s. On April 2, 1943, he married Clarice Emily Stephens at the Stephen's home near Afton. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Marines from April 1945 to August 1946. After his discharge, they lived and farmed in Ellston, Truro, Arispe, Delphos and Tingley. He also drove a school bus for Delphos and Mount Ayr Community schools from 1956 to 1966. He retired from farming in 1971, then worked for Graceland College in Lamoni as their storekeeper. After leaving Graceland College in 1984, he returned to farming 10 years with Paul Griffith. They moved from Kellerton to Creston in 1996. He was a member of Farm Bureau for many years and received a lifetime membership to the Union County Historical Society for this volunteer work. Survivors include his wife, Clarice Minnick of Creston; three daughters, Cheryl (husband Mark) Hassler of Squaw Valley, Calif., Leola (husband Larry) Kralik of Creston and Alice (husband Jim) Beavers of Collins; two sons, Stephen Minnick of Hayden, Colo., and Stanley Minnick of Grant City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Edith Shoemaker; four brothers, Myrel, Charles, Darrel and Earl Minnick; and a sister, Wilma Wilkie.
