Description	:	Leah Nora Babb, 100, Salina, formerly of Clay Center, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Asbury-Salina Regional Medical Center in Salina. She attended Hannibal School and graduated from Clay County High School in 1910. She obtained her statewide certificate the first year it was given. The following four years she taught in one-room schools in Clay County. She attended Kansas State Normal Teachers College in Emporia in the summers while teaching. Read More	Leah Nora Babb, 100, Salina, formerly of Clay Center, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Asbury-Salina Regional Medical Center in Salina. She attended Hannibal School and graduated from Clay County High School in 1910. She obtained her statewide certificate the first year it was given. The following four years she taught in one-room schools in Clay County. She attended Kansas State Normal Teachers College in Emporia in the summers while teaching. In the 1940s, she attended Kansas State College and taught in one-room schools in Riley, Pottawatomie, and Jackson counties. She was married on June 3, 1914, in Broughton to Maurice E. Babb. They farmed most of their married life in Riley, Clay, and Jackson counties. They were former residents of the College Hill community near Manhattan and in rural Holton. They retired to Clay Center in 1966. She was an active member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church and the former Steininger Bible Class. She was also a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the National Retired Teacher's Association, and the Kansas Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. Mrs. Babb was preceded in death by her husband in 1969. Survivors include three daughters, Gladys Watson, Spokane, Wash., Nora Langston, Walnut Grove, Miss. and Maurine Peirce, Salina; one sister, Viola Mosburg, Wakefield; one brother, Ira Spiers, Manhattan; six grandchildren and five great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center. The Rev. Robert M. Fleenor and Rev. Merton Zeisset will officiate. Burial will be in the Broughton Cemetery, east of Clay Center. Memorials may be made to the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center.
