Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Clearfield Christian Church. The Rev. Eydie Stephens will officiate the service. Burial will be in Clearfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield with the family receiving friends at the church one hour prior to services. Fern Spurrier, daughter of Myrtle (Ethington) and John Shaffer, was born May 24, 1911, near Clearfield. She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1929. On Dec. 26, 1931, Fern married R.E. Spurrier. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Christian Church, Cornelia Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and past matron and Clearfield Lionells, all in Clearfield. She was a Sunday school leadeand former member of the Clearfield Public Library Board. Survivors include her son Dean (wife Brenda) Spurrier of Clearfield; daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Spurrier of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Cory Spurrier, Clint (wife Chris) Spurrier, Scott (wife Lori) Spurrier, Angela (husband Chris) Naydock and Brent (wife Tracy) Spurrier; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret Henderson of Lenox; and three sisters-in-law, Charlene Shaffer of Clearfield, Audrey Shaffer of Boulder, Colo., and Betty Shaffer of Longmont, Colo. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Richard Spurrier and John Paul Spurrier in infancy; four brothers, Clyde, Gilbert, Delbert and Donaven Shaffer; two sisters, Opal McMichael and Louise French; three brothers-in-law, Earl Campbell, Harvey French and Ralph McMichael; and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Campbell and Irma Shaffer.
