He departed this life at the Fillmore hospital in Geneva, Neb., Sunday, March 16, 1941, at the age of 84 years 6 months, and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Flora E. Foster, February 28, 1884, at Springfield, Ill., and the following year they came to Geneva, Neb., where they purchased a farm in Chelsea township; later they moved to their farm west of Strang, and in 1917 moved to Geneva, where they have since resided. Their entire married... Read More	BUMGARNER, LEANDER MONROE CASH--Leander Monroe (Cash) Bumgarner was born near Auburn, Sangamon county, Illinois, October 3, 1856. He departed this life at the Fillmore hospital in Geneva, Neb., Sunday, March 16, 1941, at the age of 84 years 6 months, and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Flora E. Foster, February 28, 1884, at Springfield, Ill., and the following year they came to Geneva, Neb., where they purchased a farm in Chelsea township; later they moved to their farm west of Strang, and in 1917 moved to Geneva, where they have since resided. Their entire married life has been spent in Fillmore county, with the exception of two years which was spent in western Kansas. Mr. Bumgarner united with the United Brethren in Christ church of Strang about thirty-four years ago, and later transferred his membership to the United Brethren in Christ church of Geneva, where he remained a member till his departure into the church triumphant. During his active life he engaged both in farming and veterinary practice, serving many in the communities of Ohiowa, Chelsea, and Strang. He was an ambitious father and many times overtaxed his body, his greatest desire being the welfare of his family. He had been afflicted by illness at times the past twelve years, which greatly impaired his health. Through all these periods, his faithful wife, who has shared the joys and sorrows of life with him for more than fifty-seven years, and his children have patiently cared and administered to his every want and need. Saturday morning, March 13, he suffered a paralytic stroke. He rallied Sunday morning and was able to talk to all the members of the family, after which he peacefully went to sleep. Three children preceded him in death, Herman at the age of fourteen months, Norman at the age of eleven months, and an infant daughter, besides six brothers and five sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged wife, three sons, Will, Ellis, and Byron; and one daughter, Bessie DuBois, all of Strang, Neb., fourteen grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters, other relatives and many loving friends. In memory of this beloved husband and father the following is dedicated: "Sleep on beloved, sleep, and take thy rest; Lay down thy hand upon the Saviour's breast; We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best; Good night! Good night! Good night!" Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the United Brethren in Christ church, Rev. A. W. Swanson being in charge, with Rev. Howard Hines of Strang assisting. A quartet composed of Miss Florence Steckly, Mrs. Paul Shaner, Clarence G. Carlson, and Ed Nelson sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Land Where We'll Never Grow Old," and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Mrs. A. W. Swanson was accompanist. Pall bearers were: Russell Bumgarner, Homer Bumgarner, Leland DuBois, Kenneth DuBois, Lowell Messman, and Virgil Eppler, all grandsons. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
