He passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Lee grew up in Oroville attending 12 grades of school in the Oroville Public Schools. Shamberger was born on Feb. 13, 1937, in Oroville to parents, David E. and Oma (Shatto) Shamberger. He passed away on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Lee grew up in Oroville attending 12 grades of school in the Oroville Public Schools. He was always interested in all sport activities and participated in football, basketball, and baseball while in school. In his adult life, he was a sports official in Okanogan County, Chelan County, and Yakima County. Following graduation from high school, Lee attended college and then entered the U.S. Air Force for a four-year tour of duty in Japan and California. While in the U.S.A.F., he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Ellis, on June 28, 1956. Following his Air Force tour, Lee completed his college education and was employed by Standard Oil Co. of California in Seattle as an accountant. Lee and his wife, Darlene, had four children: Tammy, Rick, Teri, and Janet. Rather than accept a promotional move to San Francisco with Standard Oil, Lee decided to relocate his family to Oroville, where he accepted a position as General Manager of Oroville Associated Growers. Five years later, in 1971, Lee and his family moved to Anchorage, AK, where he was employed by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a Business Management Officer. In 1974, Lee and his family moved back to Oroville, where they purchased the family farm from his parents. They operated the apple orchard for 8 years and then moved to Yakima, where Lee accepted the position of Plant Manager of Snokist Growers. After 4 years in Yakima, Lee was asked to take the position of General Manager of Chief Tonasket Growers, where he remained for 8 years. Then, the family moved again to Yakima to enable Lee to take the position of President/CEO of two large fruit marketing and packing plants with facilities in Yakima and Wenatchee. Lee maintained these positions for six years when he retired in 1998. In his leisure time, Lee enjoyed boating and fishing. Lee was very interested in his local community having served as President of the Oroville Chamber of Commerce. He arranged to have U.S. Representative Thomas Foley serve as the keynote speaker at Lee's installation. Lee was also President of the Oroville Kiwanis Club. In his industry, Lee served on the board of Northwest Wholesale for several years and was appointed to the cooperative task force of cooperative general managers for the State of Washington for a three-year term. Lee was a devout Christian, yielding his life to his Saviour, Jesus Christ, in 1965, and maintaining his Christian walk throughout his life. His church family, which he referred to as his Family of God, was a great support to him and his faith was a great comfort to him. He was a member of the Oroville Free Methodist Church. Surviving relatives are: his wife, Darlene, at home; son, Rick (Holly) Shamberger, of Spokane; two daughters, Tammy (Ron) Valicoff, of Yakima, and Teri (Dave) Hart, of Spokane; eight grandchildren: Nicole, Kacy, Katey, Lindsay, Brittany, Tyler, Michael and Joey; and five great- grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Donald; daughter, Janet; and granddaughter, Lacey. Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, 11 a.m., at the Oroville Free Methodist Church with Pastor John Jenkins, officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellisforde Brethren Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oroville Free Methodist Youth Activity Center or the Make a Wish Foundation. Bergh Funeral Service of Oroville in care of arrangements.
