Leila was born in Laurel on Aug. 27, 1923, to Maurice William Baker and Meredith Richardson Baker. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1942 and in September of that year married Richard J. Read More	Obituary from The Independent Record 04/30/2004: Leila Jeanette Psenda, 80, of East Helena, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with her Lord on April 26, 2004, after a brief illness. Leila was born in Laurel on Aug. 27, 1923, to Maurice William Baker and Meredith Richardson Baker. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1942 and in September of that year married Richard J. Harris Jr. in Park City. Together they built and operated the Park City Locker Plant and then the Harris Lumber Co. and the Welcome Travelers Motel in Laurel. They divorced in 1957. Leila then went to work for the BN Railroad office in Billings and Laurel. In 1959, she married Louis Psenda in Billings. In 1961, they moved to Glendive to manage the Glen Bowl Lanes. Two years later, they opened the L and L Bowling Lanes in the basement of the Moose Lodge in Glendive and in 1968, became part of a corporation that purchased the Glen Bowl Lanes. Upon Louis' death in 1990, Leila moved to East Helena to live near her three children. Leila was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, golfing, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch and bridge. Leila belonged to the ACBL Duplicate Bridge Club of Glendive, and since 1991, to the Florence Crittenton Charity Bridge Group of Helena. She was a member of the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church. Leila was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; her husband, Louis; and two grandsons, Doug and Darrell. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Henry Kaiser of Laurel; a sister-in-law, Katherine Egeness of Red Lodge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Clifford Jackson and Dixie and James Gleich of East Helena; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharon Harris of East Helena; three stepchildren, Richard Psenda of Houston, George Psenda of Grand Junction, Colo., Kay Louene Thomlin of Las Vegas; six grandsons, Robin (Marilyn) Jackson, Shawn (Katherine) Jackson, Tyson Jackson, Heath (Jackie) Gradwohl, Wolfer and Mathew Harris of East Helena; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew and several grandnieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Leila's life will be held at the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church on Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m., with the Reverend Dave Howeth officiating. Memorials may be sent to the Florence Crittenton Home, 901 Harris, Helena, MT 59601; to the CTB fund of the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church, 3384 Canyon Ferry Road, East Helena, MT 59635, or to the charity of your choice. Retz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
