Description	:	The Odebolt News - Thursday , July 14th, 1927 - Lela Mae Simons was born July 10, 1915 on a farm 7 miles south and 2 miles east of Odebolt and passed out of this life at the Odebolt Hospital July 8, 1927 at 4:40 pm at the tender age of 11 years, 7 months, and 28 days. Read More	The Odebolt News - Thursday , July 14th, 1927 - Lela Mae Simons was born July 10, 1915 on a farm 7 miles south and 2 miles east of Odebolt and passed out of this life at the Odebolt Hospital July 8, 1927 at 4:40 pm at the tender age of 11 years, 7 months, and 28 days. Her funeral services being held on her birthday and at the hour of her birth. The first few years of her school age were spent on the farm, where she attended rural school. In the spring of 1922 she moved with her parents to Wall Lake and a year later came with her family to Odebolt where she spent the remaining years of her short life. Here in Odebolt she attended the public school and also attended the Presbyterian Sunday School. Lela was never a strong child and early in childhood suffered several spells of illness the effect of which never left her system even though for a time it seemed as though she would ulitmately recover from these and grow to womanhood. However her last illness came suddenly but she bore it bravely and patiently, although her sufferings were intense. Her last words practically revealed the fact that she was ready to go to her Redeemer, as she tried to sing with her feeble voice "Nearer My God to Thee, Nearer to Thee." After this declaration of her faith, her earthy memory seemed to vanish. She leaves to mourn her early passing: her father and mother, Mr and Mrs H.C. Simons of Odebolt; two brothers Lester and Leonard Simons; four half brothers: Louis and Clyde Simons of Eckley, Co, Frank W Weintz in the US Navy and Kenneth at home; 3 half sisters: Mrs Homer Ayers of North Platte, NE, Mrs Walter Mau of Odebolt, and Evelyn Weintz at home. One half sister, Nellie Simons, preceded her in death, 19 years ago. The funeral services was held Sunday afternoon from the home and the Presbyterian church. Pall bearers were Robert McGonigle, Lawrence Friday, Edward Hausmann, and Paul Kleepsie.
