Lela was born March 10, 1919, to Herman J. and Clara E. (Otto) Andre on the family farm in rural Meckling, South Dakota. She attended school in Meckling. Lela married Theodore (Ted) Heggestad of Witten, South Dakota, on October 17, 1935, in Yankton, South Dakota. Read More	Lela Marie (Andre) (Heggestad) Trudeau, 95, of Vermillion, South Dakota, passed away March 19, 2014, at Prairie Estates Care Center of Elk Point, South Dakota. Lela was born March 10, 1919, to Herman J. and Clara E. (Otto) Andre on the family farm in rural Meckling, South Dakota. She attended school in Meckling. Lela married Theodore (Ted) Heggestad of Witten, South Dakota, on October 17, 1935, in Yankton, South Dakota. The Heggestads made their home on a farm west of Witten and later moved to Mosher, South Dakota. They had five children: Arnold "Jerry", Marlan, Larry, LaVonne and Richard. Ted and Lela moved to Vermillion in 1956. Following the passing of Ted on May 5, 1962, Lela worked at the Dakota Nursing Home in Vermillion while raising her children. She married Hubert (Doc) Lee of Vermillion in 1974. During their short marriage, they traveled a great deal and Lela enjoyed seeing the beauty of many states. Doc passed in 1977. In 1979 Lela married Leo Trudeau, a retired farmer from Vermillion. Lee (as Leo called her) and Leo lived in Vermillion and found much enjoyment from many activities together. From the time she was a young girl Lela loved to dance and she continued to enjoy dancing well into her 70s. Lela kept a lovely yard and loved her flowers, especially her roses. She was a loving mother and grandmother. When she got to hold her first great-great granddaughter she commented, "Who would have thought I would live so long". Lela was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Eagles and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW of Vermillion. She also enjoyed reading, scrap booking, going to garage sales and collecting angels and bells. Lela was a devoted wife and mother who demonstrated strength and courage through life's many trials. Lela leaves cherished memories to two sons, Jerry (Connie) Heggestad of Winner, South Dakota, Richard (Teri) Heggestad of Meridian, Idaho; her daughter, Lavonne (David) Halverson of Vermillion; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; four step great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. Lela will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Lela is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ted, Doc and Leo; two sons, Marlan and Larry and his wives, Patricia and Jean and son Michael; daughter-in-law Denise (wife of Richard); sister, Nettie Dorothea (Dewey) Bruggeman; brothers, infant William, Clarence, Elmer (Margaret) and Ralph (Iona) Andre.
