She was the daughter of John and Myrtle Goematt Van Der Werff. She was raised by her aunt and uncle Tunie and Matt A. Leydens. She moved to Iowa at age eight months old and lived in Van Buren County until moving to Fairfield in 1983. On March 18, 1937 she was united in marriage with Martin H. Oosthoek at the United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home for the past ten years. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her Husband on July 26, 1993; brothers, Bert, Andrew, Marion, Bastion "Boss" and John and two sisters, Dirkie VerWolfe and Jennie Cobus.
