They were the parents of Viola, Ed, Arthur, Dorothy, Edna, Walter, Clifford, Lillian, and Ethel. Jan 27, 1936 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs Lena Onken, 66, a resident of Carroll County for the past 61 years died yesterday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs Chris Wenck of Lidderdale. She had been in failing health for some time and for the past 5 weeks had been bedfast. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Lidderdale. Rev. R. Herrmann, pastor, will officiate. A short service will be held at 1:15 o'clock at the Wenck home. Interment will be in the city cemetery at Carroll, where her husband is buried. Services will be under the direction of the Huffman Funeral home. Mrs. Onken was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mandelkow. She was born on January 10, 1870 at Blairstown, Benton Co., Iowa. When she was but 5 years old her parents came to Carroll county. She had lived in the vicinity of Lidderdale practically all her life. On March 21, 1894, she became the bride of William Onken at Carroll. Mr. Onken passed away in 1925. Survivors include the following children: Mrs Henry Ewoldt (Viola) of Lake Park; Ed, Arthur, Mrs Ad. Wurr (Dorothy), Mrs Chris Wenck (Edna), Walter, and Clifford, all of Lidderdale; five sisters; and 19 grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death, one in infancy and the other, Mrs. Albert Akey, as a young woman. The Onkens had been farming until 7 years ago when Mrs Onken retired and moved to Lidderdale.
