Description	:	Lena Wurtz (as printed in the Polk Progress, Polk, NE 02-16-1928) Lena Thoma was born January 1, 1856, in Rome, N.Y. together with her parents she moved to Mount Pleasant, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and was united in marriage to George Wurtz December 16, 1876. To this union were born nine children, two having died in infancy. In February, 1880 they moved with their family to Polkk County, Nebraska. The following year the deceased took up membership in the Immanuel Lutheran church which body she has always been a faithful member. Her husband died... The following year the deceased took up membership in the Immanuel Lutheran church which body she has always been a faithful member. Her husband died November 26, 1902. Mrs. Wurtz died Monday, February 6, in the faith of her Savior at the age of 72 years, 1 month, 6 days. She leaves to mourn her departure four sons and three daughters and three daughter-in-laws; Will Wurtz, Paul Wurtz and Mrs. Martin Baack of Polk, Harry Wurtz of York, George Wurtz, Mrs. J. C. Smith and Mrs. M.I. Hill, all of Loup City. Also 20 grand children, 9 great grand children, one brother of Fairfield, Iowa and one sister of Cairo, Nebr., and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 8, at two o’clock at the Immanuel Lutheran church near Polk. The body was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
