Read More	-- -- -- -- -- OBITUARY: Lenora Dorothy (Lehmkuhl) Wohlenhaus, the wife of Junior Wohlenhaus, was born January 19, 1928 in Noble Township to Alvin and Louise (Wohlenhaus) Lehmkuhl and passed away September 13, 2011 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. In 1945, Lenora graduated from Griswold High School and later graduated from Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha, Nebraska. After working for Crane Company in Omaha, she returned to Atlantic where she worked as a Northwestern Bell telephone operator. She was later trained to work the dial system and was employed when it came into use. Lenora and Junior Wohlenhaus were married June 27, 1948 in St. John's church, one mile south of Lyman, IA. To this union were born two sons, Dennis Lyle and David John, both died in infancy, and two daughters, Renee and Sarah. In 1952, upon her husband's call to service, Lenora became the manager of the telephone office in Grant, a position she held for three years. Prior to that, she was a secretary to the manager of Majestic Venetian Blind Factory at the old fairgrounds in Atlantic. In l964 she became Supervisor of School Food Services in the Atlantic school system, a position she held until 1985. During her tenure, she worked with Superintendent John Hunter to bring school lunches to the elementary schools. In cooperation with Arthur Meyer, she started the planning process for the January band spaghetti suppers. Lenora served in many volunteer capacities both before and after her retirement. She served as a Director of Wesley Retirement Services, Chair of the Planning Committee and Chair of the Heritage House Advisory Council. Lenora also served as chair of the local Meals on Wheels program and served as a driver. She was a long time member of United Methodist Women and served as the president of its Council Bluffs District. She enjoyed the time spent as a church and civic volunteer. Though no longer a member, she worked on the organization of the Hospital Auxiliary and was one of the volunteers for several years. Lenora is survived by her husband, Junior, of Atlantic; two daughters, Renee Wohlenhaus and her husband Roger Weiner and son Andrew Weiner of Bethesda, MD and Sarah Wohlenhaus and her husband Eric Amundsen and children Liv and John Amundsen of Chappaqua, NY; a brother, Grover Lehmkuhl, a sister, Iola (Lehmkuhl) Muller; a sister-in-law, Martha Lehmkuhl; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her sons, Dennis and David; a brother, Harry and wife Dorothy Lehmkuhl; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Wohlenhaus and wife Grace; and Clair Wohlenhaus and wife Helen; and sister-in-law, Leta Wohlenhaus. Services for Lenora will be Friday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic with Pastor Lanette Plambeck officiating. The committal service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the St. John's Cemetery, south of Lyman, Iowa. [End]. -- -- -- -- --
