Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Monahan Post. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Larkin Northside Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America and at 6:30 p.m. by the Third Degree Knights of Columbus. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Mr. Girard was born July 18, 1917, in St. Joseph, Kan., the son of David E. and Rosanna (Balthazor) Girard. He attended grade school and normal school. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He lived in Wichita, Kan., for a short time before moving to Sioux City in 1948. He married Frances M. "Franny" McColligan on June 30, 1943, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sioux City. While living in Wichita, he and Franny both worked for the Beechcraft Airplane Co. The family then moved back to St. Joseph to farm for a short time then moved to Sioux City. Mr. Girard worked for Robert's Dairy for more than 30 years. He also worked as a baker for Wonder Bread and as a stockman, in charge of the stockroom, and a purchaser for Toller's Drug Store. Mr. Girard was a member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany where he served as a church usher and a volunteer at the church. He was a member of the Square Knotters Club, of the American Legion Monahan Post 64, and of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Epiphany Council 743. He was a former member of the Eagles Club. He was a member and past president of the Heelan Parents Club. He was the official ticket taker at Memorial Field for 43 years, plus a volunteer for any work that needed to be done at Memorial Field. He was known as a Mr. Fix It. He enjoyed fishing, gardening (especially tomatoes and other vegetables). He also enjoyed rummage sales. Survivors include his wife Frances "Franny" Girard of Sioux City; two sons, Lee and his wife Theresa Girard of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Tom and his wife Sheryl Girard of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six daughters, Terry and her husband Duane Rees of Bellevue, Wash,, Mary R. Mueller and Christine and her husband Brian Dekker, all of Sioux City, Anne F. and her husband Larry Jackson of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Cecilia L. and her husband Nick Geary of Davenport, Iowa, and Barbara J. and her husband Glen Bernard of Kenmore, Wash.; 21 grandchildren, Joe, Jack, Corey, Brian, Scott G., Amy, Brad, Nick M., Scott, Jenny, Lori, Eric, Shawn, Nick G., Amanda, Kelly, Alex, Jessica, Brittany, Casey and Cody; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Provost and Marie Derousseau, both of Clyde, Kans. and one sister-in-law Helen Girard of Concordia, Kans. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael J. and Patrick D. Girard; two brothers, Albert and Alcid Girard and one sister, Stella Dallen. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
