Description	:	Leola May Canedy was the daughter of James Canedy and Sarah Veiham. She was born in 1875 on a farm near Allendale, Illinois. Her mother died when she was six months old, and she was cared for by her grandparents until her father, James, remarried in 1880. The Canedys made their home southwest of Emerson. She was born in 1875 on a farm near Allendale, Illinois. Her mother died when she was six months old, and she was cared for by her grandparents until her father, James, remarried in 1880. The Canedys made their home southwest of Emerson. Leola married William Arterburn, the youngest child of Elias and Nacky Arterburn, on 23 Dec 1896, in Glenwood, Iowa. The Arterburns began their life together on a rented farm in the Asbury area. In 1899 they purchased 80 acres north of Emerson and remained there for 17 years before purchasing 325 acres near Henderson, on Highway 59. In 1920 they purchased a farm northeast of Malvern, where William died on April 14, 1929. In 1934, Leola, with her remaining children, Elva and Elwin, moved to Malvern. She made her home with her daughter and family, the Cecil Hoovers, until her death in 1953 at the age of 78 years. Leola was a member of the Methodist Church and devoted her time to needlework and flowers.
