Description	:	Funeral services for Leon "Tim" E. Timmerman, age 80, of Verdigre, will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Verdigre. Leon died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Leon E. Timmerman, youngest son of 7 children of George and Emma (Reimers) Timmerman, was born September 13, 1928 on a farm at Creighton, NE. He was baptized June 30, 1929 at Zion Lutheran Church at Creighton and also confirmed there. He attended a country school in Knox County through the 8th grade. He had to remain on the farm helping his parents with the farm work. He also helped the neighbors when they needed extra workers. On April 5, 1945, he married Helen Dwinell and they made their home in Verdigre. He worked for Verdigre Motor and the Creamery, drove truck for Gordon McElhose, George Mott, and Leonard Kocina. They later moved to Neligh where he was employed at Contois Motor and worked at the Plainview Creamery. In 1950 he and his family moved to Brunswick where he operated a service station. While there, he drove a school bus and joined the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Dept. They returned to Verdigre 3 years later and he worked at S.S. Service, Farmers Co-op, and Kevins Service. Leon drove the Verdigre School Bus for 24 years, also being the bus supervisor for a time. He drove to different activities which included football, basketball, and track meets. He enjoyed all of the students participating and how they all changed from year to year. His wife Helen died October 20, 1980 and he continued to live and work in Verdigre. On November 23, 1990, he was married to Dorothy Walton. He started working at the Verdigre Housing Authority in September of 1990 as the maintenance man until April 31, 1999. He enjoyed helping and working for all of the residents, doing a lot of remodeling and improvements in the apartments. He joined the United Methodist Church of Verdigre on March 25, 1990. He became a very active member, helping with all of the fund raisers of the church and working with the groups for funerals. He also became a trustee on the church council. Leons favorite hobbies included watching football-he was a big red Nebraska fan. Fishing was his favorite, he taught many young boys to fish, including his son Leland, who went on to win many fishing tournaments. He spent many winters putting puzzles together, a lot of 1000 piece ones. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the cafe or bakery, visiting with his friends, family, and extended family of step children, grand children, and great grandchildren, of his own, and step families. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and making gallons of ice cream to share with family and friends. There is always room for ice cream, was his motto. He was active with the Verdigre Volunteer Fire Department, being a member for 17 years. He also belonged to the Improvement Club, Lions Club, and Community Chorus. He drove for the Amish families of Eddie Petersheim and John Mast, taking them to their craft shows, shopping, and whatever was needed. He enjoyed visiting, eating, and singing with them. Survivors include one son and two daughters; 8 grandchildren, four stepchildren and a sister, Louise. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; 2 brothers, Alva and Walter; and three sisters, Helen Sally Dubes, Verna Johnson, and Frieda Krugman. ...The Verdigre Eagle 26 Feb 2009
