Adamski, 80, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Monday, October 27, 2003 at a Sioux City hospital following an 8-year illness. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father Timothy Hogan officiating. Graveside Services with military rites were at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt, Iowa, with Father John McGuirk officiating. Leonard Joseph Adamski was born March 18, 1923 in Ossinke, Michigan, the son of Walter F. and Effie (Bryza) Adamski. He attended school in Alpena, Michigan where he graduated from high school. Following high school, he worked for one year at Besser Company until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1943, where he served as an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed in Sioux City, where he met Barbara J. Christiansen, who worked at Toller Drug Store in Sioux City where she as a "soda jerk." They were married May 4, 1946 in Arthur, Iowa. She passed away February 25, 1994 in Sioux City, IA. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He went to work for Albertson's Air Tools in 1955, when he went to work for A&P Grocery Store in Sioux City for several years, where he found his niche in life. He worked as a department manager. He enjoyed meeting new people and sharing in conversations with the patrons. He later went to work for Council Oak, National Foods, Sunshine Foods, and later at Super Value, until retiring due to his health. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. He was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was currently attending Morningside Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A in Sioux City. He was a member of the American Legion Duane Nelson Post #1981 in Sioux City. He will always be remembered as a supportive father and family man. Survivors include: daughter, Suzanne Wermes of Sioux City; a son Gordon L. and Sandra Adamski of Newburgh, Indiana; 3 sisters: Margaret Couture of Michigan, Grace Skiba and Vivian (Mrs. Virgil) Bauer, all from Alpena, Michigan; 1 brother: Thomas and Delores Adamski of Alpena, Michigan; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Ellen Fett of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Helen, Agnes, and Eva; 2 brothers: Leo and John; and a son-in-law: Butch Wermes in May of 2003. Casket bearers were Dave Blessing, Merlin Brown, Bob Hanus, Kenneth Harder, Bob Peterson, and Dave Wenberg. Honorary casket bearers were Lovice Munson and Harold Zellmer.
