Description	:	LeRoy E. Barnts, 95 years, of Diller, Nebraska passed away September 17, 2019 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born December 8, 1923 to Lester & Myrtle (Ferguson) Barnts in Glenwood Township, Odell, Nebraska. He attended Rock Creek School and worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army on April 10, 1944. He served in WWII in the South Pacific. Barnts, 95 years, of Diller, Nebraska passed away September 17, 2019 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born December 8, 1923 to Lester & Myrtle (Ferguson) Barnts in Glenwood Township, Odell, Nebraska. He attended Rock Creek School and worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army on April 10, 1944. He served in WWII in the South Pacific. His first assignment was at Leyte in the Philippines. Then he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines, where he was assigned to the 757th Field Artillery Battalion. After re-enlisting in October of 1945, he was sent to Germany as a Tec 5 in charge of the motor pool where he gained the reputation of being able to fix about everything mechanical. He was united in marriage to Larie Belding in 1944. From this marriage six children were born. He lived most of his life in Diller with his family. He owned and operated Roy’s Repair Shop in Diller for many years until his retirement in the mid 1990’s. He was a remarkable mechanic and welder. Roy could fix just about anything. He enjoyed his horses and goats along with his many other animals, riding motorcycles, camping fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved to share his life stories with family and friends. His greatest joy was his family. After retirement he started creating horseshoe art. This was the start of a new found source of fulfillment. Roy loved making items from horseshoes and scrap metal. He had a very creative imagination. Some of his creations include flowers, giraffes, frogs, turkeys, tractors, windmills, horses, cowboys, to name a few. He loved going to the annual Steele City Flea Market. He is survived by daughters Judy (Gene) Troxel, Joyce Barnts, Larkins, Jeanne Novotny and special friend Dave Buser, sons Roger (Pat) Barnts, Rick Barnts and special friend Carole Slone, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews and friends. LeRoy is preceded in death by his wife Larie and infant son Randy, his father Lester, mother Myrtle, brother Don and sister Lavern and many brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s. On behalf of LeRoy, the family would like to give many things to the Heritage Care Center Staff and the incredible hospice nurses for their love and care. Our special thanks to Pastor Sharon Schuster for her many visits and support. Arrangements by Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Services will be Friday September 27, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Diller, NE. Memorials to the Family’s Choice. Memorials may be mailed to P. O. Box 194, Diller, NE 68342.
