Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association SD Chapter or the American Heart Association. LeRoy J. Donahoe was born May 7, 1927, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Roy and Irene (Mundt) Donahoe. He attended St. Joseph Grade and High School. LeRoy joined the US Navy on June 5, 1945, and served during WWII in Saipan and Guam. He received his honorable discharge from the Service on May 25, 1946. On April 5, 1948, LeRoy was united in marriage in Sioux Falls, SD, to Mary Lou Hanger. The couple made their home here, where LeRoy worked at Pete’s Texaco. In 1952, he began his decades-long career with the Sioux Falls Water Department. In 1983, LeRoy became the recipient of the V.L. Crusinberry Award for Civil Servant of the Year. He retired in 1987 as superintendent of water distribution. LeRoy enjoyed yardwork, bowling, woodworking, hunting, and was a member of the American Legion Post 15, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 628, and DAV. For twelve years, he and Mary Lou enjoyed wintering in Arizona. LeRoy’s loyalty, dedication, and sense of duty will be forever cherished. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary Lou Donahoe, Sioux Falls SD; son, Jeff (Pam) Donahoe, Arlington, VA; daughter, Debra (Ed) Bornitz, Sioux Falls, SD; grandsons, Joe and Dan Donahoe, Arlington VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marie Albertus, Agnes White, Margie Hurley, Shirley Wolfe and Patty Fokken. - Miller Funeral Home
