Maine Death Records, 1960-1997: Leroy P Dow died 12 Jun 1968 in Dover-Foxcroft at age 74. Obituary from The Piscataquis Observer published 20 Jun 1968. "Son of Alfred Patterson & Leta Parsons Dow. Educated in the schools of Dover-Foxcroft, he graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1914. Most of his life was spent in some phase of the lumbering business. Associated with his father in the Dowlin Lumber Company for some years, he later became self-employed, procuring lumber for the Plunkett Webster Lumber Co. of New Rochelle, NY, operating mills in various areas of Maine and New Hampshire. In 1948 he returned to Dover-Foxcroft and accepted the position of lumber purchaser for the Stowell-MacGregor Co. After his retirement he established the firm of Chase & Dow who have purchased lumber locally for several years. He was a member of Mosaic Lodge F & AM, and attended the Congregational Church. All his life Mr. Dow was very active in community projects, being past president of the former Piscataquis Club and past president of the Masonic Club. He was a charter member of the Piscataquis Golf Association and golf always continued to be one of his favorite hobbies. Fond of all sports, he was an accomplished fisherman and hunter and will always be remembered by countless friends who accompanied him on his trips. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret (Stoddard) Dow of Dover-Foxcroft; three sons, Malcolm of Dover-Foxcroft, Russell of West Acton, Massachusettts and Dr. John P. Dow of Pittsfield. a daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Dorothy) Warren of this town; one brother, Maurice of Melbourne, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Daskam of Philadelphia, Mrs. Teresa Wallace of New York City and Mrs. Elvie Buck of Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services were held in the Congregational Church with the Rev. Leslie R Craig officiating. The very large attendance at the service and the number of floral offerings attested to the esteem and regard in which Mr. Dow was held. Bearers were William J. Chase, Charles W. Eldridge, Lyman S. Gray, Clarence Herrick, Tillson D. Thomas of this town and Earl Humphrey of Sangerville and burial was in the Gray Cemetery."
