Dorothy "Dot" was born Sept. 24, 1918, the daughter of Leroy P. and Margaret (Stoddard) Dow of Dover-Foxcroft. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Virgil A. Warren; her two children, a son, ..., of Winterport, and a daughter, ...; [2] granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters, .... In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Malcolm Dow and Allie Dow of Dover-Foxcroft and Russell Dow of Acton, Mass. Aunt Dot will be sadly missed by her many nephews and nieces. Dot was well known as a science teacher in Dover-Foxcroft and was loved by many of her students. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1937 and was president of the student council. Dot graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1941 and returned to the University of Maine - Farmington to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in the 1950s. While at Farmington she belonged to the Lambda Epsilon Sorority and was president of her senior class. Dot taught school for a total of 28 years, most of which was in Dover-Foxcroft. She taught at the "new" Sedomocha School and started the outdoor laboratory and nature trails at Sedomocha and Morton Avenue schools. Her greatest accomplishment was taking her sixth grade class to a hearing with the Maine State Legislature, where they became the first class "ever to change a law in the U.S.A.". The date of Arbor Day was changed so that Maine children could actually plant a tree on Arbor Day when the soil would be thawed. Dot also belonged to many other organizations including, Kiwanis Club, Piscataquis Country Club and Dover-Foxcroft Teacher's Club, where she had served as president. She originated and was instrumental in starting Sebec Lake Association in 1971. Dot was beloved in the Dover-Foxcroft area and will be missed by family and many friends. A memorial service is planned 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Heather Kurtz officiating.
