Harker, 63, well known Tipton druggist whose death occurred at 1:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. The death of Leroy T. Harker, who had been a resident of Tipton for 29 years, was a shock to the many friends of this man who had hoped there would be a change for the better. Death was caused by heart complications, brought on by chronic asthma from which he suffered for years. Mr. Harker was taken to the hospital about ten days ago. Following the news of his death the body was brought to this city by the Ogle & Little ambulance and prepared for burial at their undertaking parlors, being taken to the family home on North Independence street Sunday evening. Leroy T. Harker, came to Tipton 29 years ago from Indianapolis, he and James F. Stowers, purchasing a drug store of the late Rev. George W. Alford, which was located in the room now occupied by the Toole barbershop. At that time the Post Office was located in the room now occupied by the Bert Tailoring establishment and the drug store was known as the Post Office drug store. Five years later the drug store was moved to its present location and for years has been known as the Rexall. Lewis Speckbaugh purchased the interest of Stowers in the store before the move and has been a partner in the business for 27 years. The death breaks up the oldest original partnership in the city. Leroy T. Harker, who was 63 years of age, was a son of David and Elizabeth (Tepple) (sic) Harker, the father dying in Portland, Ind., in 1904 and the mother in Tipton May 28, 1928. Both are buried in Fairview cemetery. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Dean prior to coming to Tipton and the widow and two children, Raymond, of Chalmers and Mrs. Ethel Montgomery, wife of Don Montgomery of Bloomington survive. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Karns of Irvington, Mrs. C. E. Hough of Rockford, Ill. and Mrs. J. E. Gilbert of Ft. Wayne. S. C. Harker, a brother, died in Frankfort recently. He is also survived by four grandchildren. Leroy T. Harker was a man who had many friends in this community where he lived for years and he was a man who held the confidence and respect of all. He was a former Exalted Ruler of the Tipton Elks lodge, and an active member in the affairs of that organization. He will be sadly missed in lodge and business circles.
