DEATH WAS EXPECTED This Aged Woman Resided in Tipton Since 1908 - Loved By Everyone. Mrs. Sarah C. Harker of this city died Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Karns in Irvington. The aged woman became critically ill Sunday with cold and complications and no hope for her recovery was held out to members of her family who were called to the bedside. Monday she was very low and it was evident the end was a matter of a few hours. The body was brought to her home on South East street by the Ogle & Little ambulance where it will lie in state until the funeral services Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the West Street Christian Church. Mrs. Harker was one of the loveable old ladies of this community who made and held a large circle of friends during her residence here since 1908. She enjoyed remarkably good health until within a year or more ago when a series of accidents befell her. Her limb was broken three times in falls about her home and serious illness resulted. Recently her health had improved and a week ago last Saturday she was taken to the home of her daughter. Her housekeeper and companion here was injured in a fall and this necessitated the removal of Mrs. Harker from her home. For several years the deceased resided alone in apartments in her property on South East street. She was able to do her work and enjoyed being busy about her home and in her garden. She was a faithful member of the West Street Christian church and also took much interest in the W. R. C. until five years ago when her health would not permit attendance at meetings. Mrs. Harker was born February 8, 1848 in Adams County and was the oldest of eight children born to Samuel and Elizabeth Teeple. One brother and two sisters survive, Henry I. Teeple of near Decatur and Mrs. Lily Ditzler and Mrs. Mary Musgrave, both of Markle. When only 15 years old she was married to David Harker in 1863 and five children born to this union, all surviving. The children are: S. A. Harker of Frankfort, L. T. Harker of Tipton, Mrs. Laura Karns of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mary C. GIlbert of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Elta F. Hough of Rockford, IL. There were fifteen grandchildren and thirteen are surviving: also thirteen great grandchildren and eleven are surviving. In 1904 David Harker died at Portland and Mrs. Harker came to Tipton to make her home here permanently after living for short periods with her children. Rev. H. R. Pearcy will officiate at the funeral services Thursday afternoon. Short services will be held at the home of South East street before the funeral party leaves for the church. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. It is the intention to remove the body of the husband from Portland to Tipton in the near future.
