Description	:	Leslie R. Shelley, 70, of 715 W. 4th St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Monday morning, July 25, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of complications following lung surgery. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reese Chapel. The Rev. Frederick Kramer, retired Episcopal Church rector, will conduct services. Military graveside rites will be conducted at Palo Alto Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Eunice; a son, Les Shelley of West Des Moines; two daughters, Jeanne Erickson of Denver, Iowa; and Carol Shelley of Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters; amd two sisters, Mary L. Smith, of Newton and E. Lucille Mitchell of Jackson, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Shelley was a member of the Newton St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Maytag Management Club, Elks Lodge 1270, Moose Lodge 923, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Shelley had been employed at the Maytag Co. in Newton for 37 years prior to retiring as supervisor in the porcelain department in 1988. The son of George C. and Edna Kling Shelley, he was born July 13, 1924 on Rt. 3, Newton, and was a 1942 graduate of Newton Community High School. He was married to Eunice Mallery March 3, 1947 in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Shelley moved to Newton from Reasnor in 1955. Newton (IA) daily News, 1994
