Lester K. Rauch died of wounds received at Anzio beachhead according to a message received by his fiancee, Miss. Rose JoAnn Vuper, Des Moines. Lester, native of Victor, attended grade school there, was graduated from Marengo high school in 1940, and was employed by the Penn Electric Co., in Indiana when he was inducted at Camp Perry, Ohio. He went overseas in March, 1943 and saw service in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He is survived by his father, John J. Rauch, Jr., and a sister Mrs. Earl Reeves, Marengo; a brother, Lieut. John Cloyd Rauch, Camp Berkeley, Texas; and his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Rauch, Victor. His mother died when he was 15 years old. Rauch, 23, technician fifth grade, who died April 11 of wounds received in action on the Anzio beach head, will be held in the American Legion hall at Victor, Ia., at 2 p.m. today. Notification of his death was received from the war department by Technician Rauch's fiancee, Miss Rose JoAnn Vuper, of 137 S. W. Fifteenth st., Des Moines, May 4. Technician Rauch is survived by his father, John Rauch, and a sister, Mrs. Earl Reeves, both of Marengo, Ia., and a brother, First Lieutenant John C. Rauch, stationed at Camp Barkley, Tex., and his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Rauch, of Victor. Born at Victor Feb. 8, 1921, he moved with his family to Marengo in 1936. Technician Rauch came to Des Moines in 1940, and in March 1942 took a position with the Penn Electric Switch Co., of Goshen, Ind. Technician Rauch was inducted Nov. 18, 1942 and received his basic training at Fort Bliss, Tex. He had been overseas since March, 1943.
