He died at the Fillmore hospital, Geneva, March 10, 1936, aged 52 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Mr. Donisthorpe grew up at Geneva and graduated from the high school with the class of 1901. He then took a two year law course at the University of Nebraska, after which he entered the abstract office at Geneva with his father, Sidney Donisthorpe, in 1904, with whom he remained until he was appointed deputy county treasurer in 1910. He served in this capacity until 1914, when he returned to the abstract office with his father. In the fall of 1916 he was elected to the office of county treasurer and was re-elected in 1918. The term of office having been extended to four years at this time, he served in all as treasurer from January, 1917, to 1923. In 1923 he again entered the abstract office, where he remained until July, 1935, when he resigned to enter the insurance business, his father having died immediately preceding this change of business relations. Mr. Donisthorpe was married to Miss Louise B. Houchin, at Geneva, December 28, 1904. One child, a son, was born to this union. He died in infancy. Left to share the grief of his devoted companion is a foster daughter Mrs. Ruth Reemts, his aged mother, Mrs. Sidney Donisthorpe, and many other relatives and friends. His home life was particularly happy, conditioned in no small degree through his own self-sacrificing spirit. He was especially fond of his little grandson, his namesake, Lester Reemts, with whom he spent, in times of relaxation, many happy hours. The meticulous care he exercised in behalf of his parents in their declining years was extreme. Until the time of his own illness, he kept constant and continual watchful care over them, visiting their home two and three times daily. Mr. Donisthorpe was a lover of young people, many of whom now in the community and others living elsewhere, have been happy to enjoy his companionship and counsel. The high esteem in which his business associates held him can best be judged by comments made since his passing, such as, "Isn't it too bad that we have to lose such a man.", and "I thought a lot of him. He seemed always so self-possessed, paying attention to his own business and so dependable." The high regard in which he was held by the citizenry of Fillmore county is seen by the overwhelming majority with which he was elected treasurer in the fall of 1916, carrying every precinct in the county. For the past five years he has been a member of the local board of education, being president the past four years. He has been an honored member of the Masonic fraternity since 1909. He was also a member of the royal Arch chapter and Council of R. & S. Masons. His sudden and unexpected death is a shock to the entire community, and the loss of such a man is pronounced. He was not a member of the church, but evidently thought deeply upon the matter of his relationship to God, and his loved ones are comforted with his parting message, "I am ready to go." The funeral service was held at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 Friday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. W. H. Shoaf. Members of the board of education and members of the high school faculty served as casket bearers. The attendance at the service was very large. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
