Read More	DONISTHORPE, PERCY---- Percy Hamilton Donisthorpe, one of the best known dispatchers on the Norfolk division of the Northwestern railroad division, died at his home, 509 South Eighth Street, Norfolk, Neb., at 3:10 o'clock Thursday afternoon March 2, 1916, following an illness of pneumonia and complications. He is survived the widow and four children. Funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 Friday morning, conducted by Rev. Edwin Booth Jr. of the First Congregational church. The body was taken to his old home at Geneva, Neb., for interment. Through the kindness of the officers of the C. and N. W. railroad, a special car was provided for the family, and the railroad men, representatives of the various branches of the service, who accompanied the body to its last resting place. Mr. Donisthorpe was born on a farm in Lancaster county, Nebraska, April 13, 1880. When three years old he moved with his parents to Geneva, Neb. where he was educated in the public schools. Afterwards he attended Doane College one year and then he became interested in telegraphy. He learned the business in the Geneva office under the instruction of Agent E. F. Elmore and then became a relief agent in many of the stations. He finally settled at Sioux City, were he became the city ticket agent, and later a telegrapher. Thirteen years ago he was transferred to the Norfolk division and took up his residence in that city. His first work in the Northwestern headquarters at Norfolk was that of a telegrapher, and later he learned the business of train dispatcher. He was an expert telegrapher and was considered one of the best dispatchers in the Northwestern service. The esteem in which he stood in the estimation of the company was shown not only by the trust and honor in which he was held as a servant of the company, but by the friendly interest the officers and employees took in him during his last illness and the respect shown by them in the funeral arrangements. Were it not for the fact that the funeral took place on Saturday, a much larger delegation of his associates in the railroad service would have been present at the final services. On December 9, 1900, Mr. Donisthorpe was married to Miss Maude Merritt of Omaha, the bride being a former Geneva girl. To this union four children were born, two daughters Helen Louise and Dorothy Jean, and two sons Donald McLean and Harold Merritt. Besides the widow and children, Mr. Donisthorpe is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Donisthorpe of Geneva and one brother, Lester, also of Geneva, F. B. Donisthorpe, an uncle of Percy, and family, also of Geneva, are the only other relatives of Mr. Donisthorpe in this vicinity. A grandmother of Mr. Donisthorpe, Mrs. McLean of Seward was present at the funeral. Mrs. Donisthorpe's mother, Mrs. Dredge, from the home at Council Bluffs, and a sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, from Wisconsin were also present at the funeral. Mr. Donisthorpe is spoken of by all who knew him as one of the most sterling young men that Geneva has sent forth. The promotions that came to him in his chosen work were not the result of favoritism but of faithful work, strict integrity, clean habits, and loyalty to his employer's interests. Mr. Donisthorpe was esteemed as a citizen and loved as a friend. His home life was ideal and his presence will be sadly missed. He was a member of the Royal Highlanders and took an interest in all matters designed for the uplift of his fellowmen. The funeral party, which included the parents of the deceased, arrived in Geneva in Superintendent Reynolds private car Friday evening, the car being attached to the regular train. A delegation of railroad men from Norfolk acted as an escort as far as Fremont, where they were compelled to turn back because of the fact that there is no Sunday train on this branch. Mord Pangle, train master on the Black Hills division and wife and daughter accompanied the party to Geneva. Mr. Pangle is a Geneva boy also, and an old friend of Mr. Donisthorpe, and he was untiring it giving assistance during the Mr. Dontisthorpe's illness. The body rested at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Donisthorpe until Saturday afternoon. Probably no greater volume of flowers was ever seen here. There were many flowers at the home and a great volume of them at the church. They were sent by many personal friends, societies and associates of the deceased in private life and in the railway service. The funeral took place at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the Geneva Congregational church and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. B. A. Warren. The attendance was very large. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Mrs. Percy Donisthorpe and her four children and Mrs. Donisthorpe's sister, Mrs. Blanche Merritt Thompson, and Mr. and Mrs. Mord Pangle and daughter returned to Norfolk Monday in the private car. Mrs. Thompson will remain with her sister for a time. Mrs. Dredge remained in Geneva a few days to visit old friends before returning to her home in Council Bluffs. The Nebraska Signal March 1916
