Description	:	DONISTHORPE, SYDNEY—Sydney Donisthorpe, one of Geneva’s pioneer business men, passed away at his home at 12:30 a. m. Wednesday, May 8, 1935, aged 83 years 6 months, and 24 days. Read More	DONISTHORPE, SYDNEY—Sydney Donisthorpe, one of Geneva’s pioneer business men, passed away at his home at 12:30 a. m. Wednesday, May 8, 1935, aged 83 years 6 months, and 24 days. Mr. Donisthorpe was born in Leicester, England, October 14, 1851. Coming to this country when twenty-two years of age, he settled on a farm in Lancaster county. He was married to Elizabeth H. McLean November 9, 1878. Mr. and Mrs. Donisthorpe moved to Geneva in the spring of 1883. Mr. Donisthorpe entered the abstract business, working first with Mr. McKee a short time, and then being associated with Will R. Gaylord, who resided at Fairmont. In 1886 Mr. Donisthorpe went into business for himself. He started the present books of the Fillmore County Abstract association and organized the system that has been in use since. He was a fine penman and all his records are clear and legible and his extreme care prevented mistakes. Mr. Donisthorpe devoted some time to public service. He served on the town board when Geneva was but a village. He served as deputy clerk of the district court under Henry Sheldon. He was then six year in the county clerk’s office, first as deputy under R. A. Matteson, and then as county clerk. He then took active charge again of the abstract business and continued as secretary and manager until July 1, 1935, when he retired because of advanced age. Mr. Donisthorpe enjoyed fair health until last November, when he took to his bed. He was a patient sufferer the past few months. He greatly enjoyed the visits of many friends who called to see him and whose calls always cheered him. Mr. and Mrs. Donisthorpe were the parents of two children, Percy H., who died March 2, 1916, and Lester S. Mr. Donisthorpe is survived by his widow, his son Lester of Geneva, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Helen McNamee of Norfolk, Mrs. Dorothy Palme of Blair, Donald M. of Los Angeles, and Merritt H. of Norfolk, and a brother and two sisters in England. Mr. Donisthorpe was a member of the Masonic order for many years. He was a charter member of the Geneva Congregational church, and for many years he was always in his place in the choir. Both he and Mrs. Donisthorpe were always to be found in attendance at the church services until failing health made this impossible. The funeral took place from the Congregational church in Geneva Friday, May 10, at 2 p. m. being conducted by Rev. David Tudor of Cortland, his former pastor. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery, the Masons being in charge of the burial service. Among those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Mrs. Maud Donisthorpe of Fremont, Mrs. Helen McNamee and Merritt Donisthorpe of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McLean of Broken Bow and Mr. and Mrs. A.
