Description	:	Letherenda Kirby Chaney, widow of James Harold Chaney, died on October 17, 2007, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, Laurens, SC. Born in Laurens, SC, on November 10, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Heaton Kirby and Joe Berry Kirby. She graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, SC. Born in Laurens, SC, on November 10, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Heaton Kirby and Joe Berry Kirby. She graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, SC. During World War II, she worked in the fingerprint division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, and attended George Washington University. She was a member of Laurens First Baptist Church for 60 years, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir for thirty-three years. She was a soloist for her beloved Martha Franks Singers. She was a former member and past president of the Cora Cox Music Club of Laurens and a former member of the Daffodil Garden Club of Laurens. She also formerly served on the board of the Presbyterian College Concert Series. She retired from State Farm Insurance as secretary to her brother, J.B. Kirby. Surviving are her daughters, Cathy Allene Chaney and Mary Ann Harris and son-in-law, Burns Harris, all of Columbia, SC; sister Betty Vaughn of Laurens, SC; brothers, Richard Kirby of Laurens, SC, and David Kirby of Dawson, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Joe B. Kirby and Charles Kirby of Laurens and sister, Bobbie Gibbs of Laurens. Mrs. Chaney's daughters wish to thank all the health care staff at Martha Franks Retirement Center for their love and care for their mother during her stay there. Memorials may be made to Martha Franks Singers, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, and SC 29360.
