Read More	CHARTER OAK, Iowa -- LeVerne Creese, 81, of Charter Oak died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital. LeVerne Creese May 16, 1929 - December 19, 2010 Lerne Herbert Creese was born May 16, 1929, the son of Percey and Hertha Namanny Creese. He died Sunday, December 19, 2010, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one. LeVerne was born on the family farm west of Charter Oak. He received his education in a rural school near his home and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1947. On October 19, 1952, LeVerne was united in marriage to Joann Butler at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, by Rev. Walter Schroeder. The couple made their home in Charter Oak. LeVerne was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church on April 5, 1953. He was called for duty by the United States Army and entered the service in April 1953. He was stationed in Virginia, and Joann joined him there. Next, they traveled to Alaska for one and one-half years. LeVerne received his honorable discharge in April of 1955. They returned to a farm west of Charter Oak and later purchased the farm west of them where they continued to farm until the present time. LeVerne was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren’s ball games, dance recitals, music concerts and other athletic events. After his family, farming was his pride and joy; he was a good steward of God’s land. He had a forthright character. He was an avid gardener who gave much of his produce away, even making home deliveries. LeVerne was active in many organizations, including the Charter Oak Community Club and was honored to be chosen as Citizen of the Year in 1996. He was on the Agriculture Stabilization Board for 18 years, nine of those being chairman of the County Committee, and the FHA Board for two terms. He also belonged to the Crawford County Youth Committee and the Crawford County Extension Committee as chairman and the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was an original member of the Tri-Community Medical Center. He was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Homer Hall Post #66 where he served as Legion Commander several times, and the Ute V.F.W. Post #5605. He always enjoyed playing cards, fishing and visiting with everyone he met. LeVerne was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, June. Survivors include his wife of 58 years; two daughters, Linda and her husband, Mark; and Sherri and her husband, Kevin; six grandchildren: Seth and his wife, Jennifer; Nathan and his wife, Sara; Melissa; Terrin; Kenzie;and Kobe; four great-grandchildren: Taytem, Jonah, William and Peyten; two brothers: Elwin; and Orlen and his wife, Phyllis; many other relatives and friends.
