Levi Byer, 51, of Morrill, Is Dead Morrill—Levi Byer, 51, a Brown county resident since his boyhood, died at 7:35 Wednesday morning at his home 3 miles east of Morrill, following an illness which for a time kept him confined in the Sabetha hospital. Known as one of the best farmers in this section, Mr. Byer specialized in raising good hogs-cattle. He was an active member of the farm bureau. He was born in Ontario, Can., but came to Kansas when he was a boy, marrying an Abilene girl in his young manhood. Surviving are the widow, sons, Glenn, west of Hamlin, Everett, Verland, Wendle, Donald, of the home; daughters, Miss Lois, a teacher in western Kansas, Carol, at home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Brick church at Morrill, Rev. Paul S. Longenecker officiating. OBITUARY Byer—Levi Byer was born March 5, 1884, near Stouffville, Ontario, Canada, died May 15, 1935, at the age of 51 years, 2 months, 10 days. At 2 months of age he accompanied his parents, John Henry-Anna Byer, to Kansas, where they located on the Byer homestead north of Hamlin, where he grew to manhood, being close companion to his father. He attended Pleasant Hill school from which he graduated. In youth he was converted, united with the Brethren in Christ church, maintaining membership until death. On Feb. 6, 1908, he was united in marriage to Mary Book, of Ramona, Kans., at which time they located on the farm near Hamlin where they established their home, residing there until his death. Surviving him are a devoted wife; 5 sons, Glen, of Hamlin, Everett, Verland, Wendel, Donald; 2 daughters, Lois, Carol at home; also 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, Milton, of Hamlin, Clarence, Lydia, Mary, of Upland, California. He was a kind husband, father, brother. Highly regarding his family, he provided many advantages and opportunties [sic] for their comfort, success. Religious, educational opportunities for his children were given generous consideration. Further evidencing his interest in education, he served as a member of the Hamlin school board for a number of years. He was extensively engaged in farming, stock raising, in which occupation he industriously applied himself. As a leader and builder he contributed largely to the promotion of agricultural interests. His counsel was solicited, highly valued by his fellowmen. Thru helpfulness, good will, together with honorable business principles, he won many friends. Nine months ago he suffered an injury which is believed to have terminated in various disorder which, finally caused his death. A courageous effort was made for recovery and in a commendable manner he patiently bore the affliction and suffering. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of the Brethren in Morrill Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. Homer Engle, of Navarre, Kans., assisted by Rev. Paul S. Longenecker.
