Description	:	Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune 12-6-1972 Levi Godfred Landsness was born June 1,1883, to Ludvig and Grethe Rogeness Landsness, on a farm southeast of Sioux Rapids. He received his education in the rural schools of Lee township. As an infant, he was brought to the Lord in Holy Baptism at First Lutheran Church by Pastor Amon Johnson and later as a young lad he renewed these vows in the rite of Confirmation. He received his education in the rural schools of Lee township. He had made Sioux Rapids his home his entire lifetime. On Feb. 19,1908, he was united in marriage with Tonettie Berg near Linn Grove. Two children were born to this union, Gwenola and Austin. They farmed for a year and then moved into Sioux Rapids where Levi operated a hardware-implement business. The first tractor, cornpicker and elevator in this area were set up through his business. In 1915 he returned to farming and moved to the farm now operated by his grandson — Merlin Landsness. He lived there until retirement in 1947. Since then he had resided in Sioux Rapids and though retired kept busy with his many interests. He was connected with education and its work in our county, served his church in many capacities, serving with its physical needs such as carpentry, and also as a member of the church council for many years. At the time of his death he was the oldest baptized and confirmed and continuous member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. On June 26, Levi sustained a fractured hip and while recuperating from this and surgery he suffered a series of light strokes. He entered Longhouse Nursing Home where he passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 28,1972, at the age of 89 years, five months and 28 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, his wife who died in January, 1966, shortly before their 58th anniversary; his son-in- law Clarence Wardlow in April, 1945, in World War II, his son Austin in November, 1970, and a great-grandson in July, 1970. He leaves to mourn his daughter, Gwenola Wardlow of Sioux Rapids; his daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Helen Landsness; four grandchildren, Iris, Mrs. Marvin Hackbarth of Algona, Lynn Wardlow of Eagen, Minn., Merlin Landsness of Marathon, Leroy Landsness of Sioux Rapids, seven great-grandchildren and a host of oujer relatives and friends.
