After growing up in Wauneta, he graduated Wauneta High School in 1931, and then from what is now the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Later earned his masters degree in wildlife management at Iowa State, Ames, Iowa. Married Luella Thomas, of Wauneta, in 1933. She died in 2000. Mr. Mohler taught and coached in high schools at Wauneta, Norfolk and in Colorado. During these summers, he drove a touring car in Rocky Mountain National Park. In 1941, he began work for the Nebraska Game, Forestation & Parks Commission, living briefly in Ogallala, but largely in Lincoln. Levi originated Nebraska's first deer hunting season in 1945. He worked with other leaders to establish good wildlife and habitat conservation practices. He was the foremost authority on pheasants in Nebraska throughout the 1950's. He taught wildlife classes at the University of Nebraska and also in Greeley. In 1954, he joined the Idaho Fish & Game Dept. in Boise. There he specialized in big game and in wildlife research. He wrote numerous articles. In 1953-1954, he served as outdoor feature writer for the Lincoln Sunday Journal-Star. He kept a daily diary for 65 years. Member, Nebraska Ornithologists Union. Served on the editorial board of the Journal of Wildlife Management. Chair of the Nebraska Wildlife Society. Co-founded Audubon Chapters in Lincoln and Boise. With his wife, helped start the Happy Hoofer senior walking group and the Meeting of the Minds in Boise. After retiring in 1974, Mr. Mohler became an expert on hummingbirds, recording over six thousand observations. He was instrumental in the expansion of the Boise Zoo. His early photography was featured in a gallery exhibit in Denver when he was 90 years old. He began taking organ lessons when he was 92 and gave a few demonstration performances. At the time of his death he was a member of the singing group at his retirement center in Boise. Survivors: daughters, Lois Okrasinski, Portland, Ore., Dr. Jean Anderson, Denver; son, Robert, Ord; brother, Nathan, Lincoln; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother, Phares, of Omaha, 1983. A service was held in Boise. A funeral in Wauneta will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Methodist Church.
