Born January 26, 1909 to James Weaver Thomas and Addie (Decker) Thomas in Traer, Kansas, Luella grew up in northwestern Kansas. She moved with her family to Chase County in 1924. Luella graduated in 1927 from Wauneta High School. After attending Colorado teachers College (University of Northern Colorado) for two years, she returned to Chase county where she taught for four years; one year at Empire School, a one-room country school north of Wauneta; and three years in Wauneta. When fire destroyed the Wauneta school during the 1932-33 school year, Luella completed the year teaching her sixth grade class in the basement of the Methodist church. On June 16, 1933, Luella married Levi L. Mohler in Greeley, Colorado. During the early years of their marriage, Luella's diverse employment activities included that of managing the curio shop at the Grand Lake Lodge in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Luella and her family lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for 11 years prior to moving to Idaho in 1954. Luella was a skilled homemaker and talented seamstress who also enjoyed gardening, canning and propagating African violets. She loved bird watching and family activities, including picnics and hikes. Mrs. Mohler was an active PTA member at her children's schools. She served on the Boise Council of PTA; the first Audubon chapters in Lincoln, Nebraska and in Boise, Idaho were established with her help. Many Boise neighbors looked forward to visits from Luella as their Avon lady in the 1960's and 1970's. She was a member of the First United Methodist church and a charter member of the Happy Hoofers, Boise's walking group for seniors. In recent years she and her husband, Levi, served as the program co-chairs for the Meeting of the Minds at the Boise Senior Center. In April of 1996, Luella was honored with presidential recognition from the University of Northern Colorado in the form of a Legacy of Learning Award. She is survived by her husband, Levi L. Mohler of Boise; daughters: Lois E. (Mrs. Ted) Okrasinski of Portland, Oregon and Dr. Jean E. Anderson of Englewood, Colorado; a son, Robert T. Mohler of Ord, Nebraska; a brother, Ivan Thomas of Greybull, Wyoming; sisters Alta (Mrs. Carl) Berggren of Longmont, Colorado and Marjorie (Mrs. Loren) Good of Sterling, Colorado; four grandchildren: Allison (Oberbillig) Taylor of Orlando, Florida, Mindy (Anderson) Cohen of Denver, Colorado, Kelsey (Mohler) Moses of Lakewood, Colorado, and Kyle Mohler of Castle Rock, Colorado; step granddaughters: Jeanne (Okrasinski) Rintell of Boston, Mass, and Karen (Okrasinski) Sisca of Portland, Oregon and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Irene (Mrs. Melvin) Linglebach, and two brothers Lee Thomas and James Thomas. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 5, 2000 at 3 pm at the Cana Chapel at the First United Methodist Church in Boise. Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services and interment were held at the Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at 11 am. Casketbearers were Ted Okrasinski, Loren Good, Janette (Thomas) Kuehn, Gena (Good) Green, Gayla (Good) Griese and Glenn Good.
