Read More	Fort Dodge Daily Chronicle February 17, 1886 KILLED BY THE CARS Louis Intermill of Sumner Township, This County, Meets His Fate While Trying to Make a Flying Switch at Lake City. Word has reached this city that Lewis Intermill, son of Chris Intermill, of Sumner township, this county, was instantly killed by being run over by the cars at Lake City yesterday. THE CHRONICLE reporter, upon inquiring, learned that Lewis was a brakeman on the C. & N.W. railway, and that while he was acting in that capacity and was making a flying switch, he caught one of his feet in a frog and before he could release the same, he was struck by the cars, run over, and killed. Louis Intermill was a young man aged about 23 or 24 years, and was well known in the southern part of the county. His sudden and unexpected demise cannot help be a terrible shock to his parents and many friends, to whom THE CHRONICLE extends its sympathy. The funeral will occur at Burnside this afternoon. ********* Dayton Review February 19, 1886 Killed by the Cars The sad news was received by Chris. Intermill, who lives a few miles north of town, Tuesday that his son Louis A. Intermill had been killed by the cars at Lake City Monday evening the 15th. He was coupling the cars and his foot caught in the fatal frog, and was run over and killed instantly. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Dawson at the M.E. church in this city on Thursday. He was a member of Lehigh Lodge I.O.O.F. and was followed to the grave by the Lehigh and Dayton Lodges. There was a very large attendance of friends, and the grief of the stricken parents was a sad sight. ********* Fort Dodge Messenger February 25, 1886 LEHIGH - FROM THE ECHO One of the saddest accidents the Echo has been called upon to record for a long time whereby Lew. Intermill one of Sumner township's most deserving and popular young men went down to his death, occurred at Lake City, Monday evening, Feb. 15th. Mr. Intermill, Monday afternoon, started on a special from Jewell Junction going west. The train reached Lake City about 8 o'clock. While making a coupling at this place one of Lew's feet was caught between the guard rail and main rail and he was crushed down under the cruel wheels. Two cars passed over his body. He lived but a few moments after the accident. Tuesday the body was taken to Dayton and thence home to the bereaved parents and sorrowing friends. The funeral services - which were delayed for the arrival of a sister of the deceased who lives in Tama county - were held at the Kitt school house and the body was taken to the Dayton cemetery for interment. Vesper Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, assisted by the Dayton lodge, took charge of the funeral. Lew, as he was familiarly called, was a general favorite among the young people.
