Clinton Mira Alice Clinton Lida Mae (Clinton) Raplee Elsie Olive (Clinton) Giersch Elmer Oliver Clinton Jewel Dodd (Clinton) Neaderhiser ===== Obituary - LEWIS DODD CLINTON Lewis Dodd Clinton was born in Edgar county, Illinois, November 18, 1842 and died at his home two miles from Tescott, Kansas, October 14, 1921, aged 78 years, 10 months and 26 days. On February 4, 1869 he was united in marriage with Martha J. McGavran. To this union were born ten children, three dying in infancy. Laura, the eldest, grew to womanhood but died at the age of 31 years. The six surviving children are Rose Crawford of Lincoln, Kansas, Charlie of Beverly, Kansas, Lida Raplee of Salina, Kansas, Elmer of Wichita, Kansas, Jewell Neaderhiser of Longford, Kansas and Elsie Giersch on the home farm near Tescott, Kansas. With his wife, these children, with a number of grandchildren were all present at the funeral which was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Salts of Lincoln, Kansas. L.D. Clinton united with the Christian church at Homer, Illinois in the early seventies, and in 1877, with his family moved to Kansas locating on a homestead five miles southeast of what is now Tescott. In the spring of 1883 he moved to his farm near Tescott. Becoming weary of farming, he bought property in Tescott, built a home where he resided for fifteen years. His children having married and gone, and he with his wife growing older and more feeble and alone, moved back to the farm with their daughter, Elsie. He was active and industrious, honorable and upright in all his dealings, kind hearted to all, generous in his family and social relations, and helpful in all public matters. The great number of the immediate citizens of the community that attended the funeral gave evidence of the respect in which he was held where he had lived so long and showed their sympathy for the bereaved family. Clinton, who passed away Friday, Oct. 14, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dan Giersch. [Minneapolis (Ottawa County, Kansas) Better Way, October 27, 1921] ===== Misc Newspaper Clippings 1.) Tescott -- L.D. Clinton had a narrow escape from drowning last Saturday and lost a valuable team of horses. He attempted to cross the Saline river one mile east of Tescott with a team hitched to the running geers (sic) of his wagon. The current was very strong at this place, and washed the team over into a deep hole, drowning both horses, and as Mr. Clinton was unable to swim his case was for a time very critical. Tescott - Mrs. Lida Braten and son, who have been visiting L.D. Clinton and family for a number of weeks, returned to her home in Pueblo, Colo., Friday.
