One was issued in Morris County where he died and the second was issued two days later in Hunterdon County. I think that one death certificate was issued where he died. Then his body was claimed and taken to Hunterdon where he was buried and another death certificate was issued two days later. One death certificate says he was born in "Hirdtown." The other says he was born in Fox Hill (Fairmount), Hunterdon County, NJ. The 1875 NJ Census says he was born in Morris County. It is not known who his parents were. His birth year is variously reported but seems to have been 1800 plus or minus a couple of years. He married the older, widowed Catherine Fleming Beam between c.1825 when her first husband died and 1829 when their eldest son was born. Her first husband is listed as having died in 1822 in "Early Germans," but since their youngest son Ebenezer was born in 1825 that seems to be an error. In the 1850 Census, Lewis, wife Catherine, and son Cyprian/Serring are found in Washington Twp., Morris Co. in the household of Catherine's married daughter Anna and her husband William Apgar. In the 1860 Census, Lewis is found in the household of another of Catherine's daughters Catherine and her husband Isaac Ader, also in Washington Twp., Morris County. Wife Catherine died in 1853. He appears to be in the 1870 Census in Washington Twp. with Anna and William Apgar as "Isaac Hoofler," an unemployed, blind man born in 1800. He is in the burial records of the Fairmount Presbyterian Church. It is worth noting that Hoover is spelled various ways including Huber and Hover. It has been pointed out that there were men named Lodewyck Hover in Walpeck Twp., Sussex Co. in the right period. It is possible that Lewis Hoover started out as Lodewyck Hover.
