He is survived by his wife Betty; sons Mark (Genny) Ramey of Las Vegas, Scott Ramey of Whitman, Ariz.; daughters Carol (Don) Marostica of Loveland, Patricia (Mark) Korb of Fort Collins and Marcia Tysdal of Eaton. Lew is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his sister Doris Wagner of Estes Park. Public viewing was at Tennant Funeral Home Feb. 14, 2006, The Funeral service was held Feb. 15, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church. Lewis was born to Loyd and Ethel Ramey on May 27, 1927, in Padroni. He lived there and went to school in Padroni until 1943 at which time he transferred to Sterling High School. In 1945 he graduated, married Marilyn Glick, and joined the Navy. Upon return from the Navy, Lewis worked in the family business, Ramey Oil Company, delivering gasoline and fuel oil to ranchers and farmers in the area. In 1948 he bought a gasoline transport, and brought petroleum products from Denver and Cheyenne to the Ramey Oil Company in Sterling. In 1963 the oil company was sold to Phillips Petroleum Company. At that time Lewis and his brother Keith started the Ramey Farm Supply business where they sold Ford tractors, New Holland bailers and hardware. The brothers sold the farm supply business in 1965 to what is now known as The Big R of Greeley. In 1965 Lewis married Marjorie Zimmerman. That same year he purchased 1000 acres of farm land east of Padroni from his father. He operated the farms for two years and then leased them to Ceres Land Company. In 1967 Lewis and his cousin, Bill Ramey, went into an equal partnership on a ranch at Miles City, Mont. It was then that they formed the Ramey Ranch Company. In 1970 Lewis and Betty Frazier/Drommond were married. He continued to operate the Montana ranch until 1973 when they sold it and moved back to Colorado. At that time the Ramey Ranch Company purchased ranches south of Brush and Wiggins. These ranches were sold in 1979 and they purchased ranches near Gordon, Neb., and Martin, S.D. Lewis operated all of these ranches. In 1979 Lewis and Betty moved back to Sterling to manage and take care of his farms at Padroni. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Scholarship Fund.
